Timberwolves Video of the Week: Timbertrolls 2013

The Timbertrolls burst onto the scene last year and I couldn’t be happier!  They do some tremendous work.  Their latest video is a nice preview of the 2013 squad.  Two particular highlights from this piece:

  • Excellent use of the movie ‘White Men Can’t Jump’
  • A cameo appearance from Ivan Drago never disappoints

Here are two things I hope to never see again that were included in the video though:

  • Kevin Love “raising the roof” coming back down the court
  • Those cursed Muskies uniforms – please, if we are going to wear throwback uniforms this season, please use the ones from 1989

The Timbertrolls need a new Anthony Tolliver though.  Who is going to replace AT – only time will tell, but my vote goes to Alexey Shved.  Keep up the good work Timbertrolls!

Timberwolves Video of the Week: Beard Contest 2012

One of my favorite moments from the ‘11/’12 Timberwolves’ season was their beard competition for fans.  No, seriously.  I thought this phenomenal, hysterical, and brilliant.  You can’t get much more of a ringing endorsement than that, can you?

The team gave four tickets to the winning entry and even brought in the Founder of the Minneapolis Beard and Moustache Club for the final decision.  Who knew that organizations like this even existed?  Here’s a belated congratulations to the winner and those that made the final cut for the video!

I truly believe the Wolves have the best marketing and digital teams in the NBA.  The organization has clearly made this a priority in its communications plans over the past few years.  If David Kahn can be credited for this, you have to give him kudos on this one.

Let’s go Wolves!

Timberwolves Video of the Week: Love Goes for 31 & 31

For many of my YouTube clips of the week I’ve been digging through the archives for some fond memories from the Timberpups franchise.  It dawned on me that I had better come up with something more recent and relevant to the current club before I start looking like the grandfather for the site.  So, with that in mind, let’s go back to November 12, 2010.

Kevin Love was still not getting heavy minutes from former coach, Kurt Rambis (an abysmal failure of a head coach by the way, now currently employed by ESPN; naturally).  Then, the Knicks came to town and the results from that game changed the views of the few remaining non-believers.  Kevin had a relatively “slow” first half with only 6 points and 9 rebounds and exploded in the second half.

Timberwolves Video of the Week: Malik Sealy Tribute

For this installment of “Timberwolves Video of the Week” I was looking for a YouTube clip that had Malik Sealy’s jersey retirement ceremony in its entirety but had no such luck.  However, I did come across this well done collection of career highlights and then a very well put together ending from the 2:47 mark and beyond – which includes showing Malik’s jersey in the rafters of Target Center.

While searching for the right video for this I came across a few facts and figures that I had forgotten about regarding Sealy’s basketball career.  I would have never remembered that he played for three teams before joining the Wolves (Pacers, Clippers, and Pistons).  I forgot that he stayed in college for all four years (St. John’s).  Finally, in case you missed it, Malik had a role in the movie Eddie. Timberwolves Video of the Week: Brandon Roy Top Ten Plays

I know many of you are in the same boat as I am and simply cannot wait to see B-Roy repping the blue and white. Here is a great compilation of some his best highlights during his five years in PDX. Now, many of these plays happened before knee ailments led Roy to retire before last season, but it is still exciting to know that if he returns to anything close to All-Star form that made him one of the top players in the NBA, he will surely be an upgrade to what the Wolves experienced at shooting guard last season. Well, enjoy the highlights and have a nice weekend y’all.

Timberwolves Video of the Week: KG Gets His Ring

While not fully Timberwolves-related, this victory celebration and interview with KG is a classic moment for all fans alike.  Kevin Garnett finally got his ring and his emotions and sheer joy made this an absolute joy to watch.  The Celtics returned to the top of the NBA and KG’s presence had everything to do with it.  Naturally, after this game was over, it signaled the end of my rooting for the Celtics, as that was pretty painful in and of itself.

Everything about this video captures the brilliance of KG.  Loyal to a fault, when he finally is able to speak to Tafoya, KG throws shout-outs to ‘Sota and Chicago.  I’m probably not alone in this, but there was a little piece of me that felt like the Timberwolves won that day.  I noticed how one of the people around KG tried to get the microphone out of the way, basically telling Tafoya to scram without saying a word.  However, she pressed on and waited for KG to come around.  Michele, of course, also has roots with the Timberwolves from her early career.
